The folklore dotted Ajmer, dating back to the seventh century, the discovery of the intrepid Prithviraj Chauhan, boasts of huge footfalls throughout the year. You have to traverse a distance of seventy- eight miles from the Pink City to reach Ajmer. Pay your homage at the shrine of the venerated Khwaja Mu''in-ud-din Chisti who lived between 1142 and 1236 A.D. The magnificent Ana Sagar Lake, constructed in the twelfth century, is another favorite tourist haunt.

Ajmer District in Rajasthan is home to some of the most picturesque and historical towns of India. A major tourist destination, the district is easily accessible from different corners of the country. The ancient city of Ajmer is the district headquarters.

Location of Ajmer District:

Ajmer District is situated in the central part of Rajasthan, a state in western India. The entire district is spread across an area of 8481 sq kilometer. One can find the Aravalli Hills bordering the district in the south-western and north-western part. The districts Bhilwara, Pali, Nagaur, Tonk and Jaipur border this district in the south, west, north and east respectively. The rivers Dai, Sagarmati, Khari and Saraswati pass through this district.

Divisions of Ajmer District:

The entire district has 4 subdivisions, which include Beawar, Kishangarh, Ajmer and Kekri. These four sub division are further divided into 6 tehsils. These include Sarwar, Kekri, Kishangarh, Ajmer, Nasirabad and Beawar.

History of Ajmer District:

The district was built around the historical city of Ajmer. Raja Ajay Paul Chauhan was the founder of this city. Ajmer was ruled by Chauhans till 1193 AD. Prithviraj Chauhan was one of the most famous kings of this place. It was thereafter taken over by Mohammed Ghauri. The region came under the control of the Scindias in the year 1818. Later on, during the British rule over India, it became a part of Rajasthan.

Climate of Ajmer District:

Ajmer experiences hot climate. The summers are extremely hot. The area receives a fairly good amount of rainfall. The winter months are pretty cold and chilly. July to March is the best time to visit this place.
