History of Udaipur District:
Udaipur was named after Maharana Udai Singh, the founder of this place. The city of Udaipur was built on a hill that overlooks Lake Pichola. It was originally the capital of Mewar, a Rajput kingdom that was ruled over by the Ranawats of the Sisodia family. In the year 1818, Udaipur became a princely state and after India became independent in 1947, it became a part of Rajasthan and was made a district.
